Research by Approved Index, a B2B comparison website for business services, revealed that in 2017, the number of UK SMEs (Small and medium-sized enterprises) operating without a website was an astonishing 1.98 Billion with small businesses alone standing to raise an additional £106 billion per year in extra revenue simply by implementing an effective web presence.
The Independent Online reported in Oct 2017 that even those small UK businesses with a website, were still missing out on the £Billions mobile shopping boom because their websites are not responsive in design nor optimised for use on smartphones and tablets. And with tech-happy shoppers predicted to double their spend on mobile purchases, many SME’s risk not capitalising on this amazing growth by remaining in the dark ages.
The research also reveals a growing gap between what shoppers want and expect from mobile shopping and what small businesses are actually offering. Many SME websites were originally set up as an after-thought with lots still sat collecting dust and not maintained for years. The result is that even if shoppers do find an outdated and mobile unresponsive website, they will immediately think that the business is behind the times and will move on to another site withinin seconds.
